When oral arguments resume at the Georgia Supreme Court next month, the first case on the docket will involve a tough subject for judges: recusal.

In recent years, the bench and bar have debated when campaign activity should prompt a judge to step away from a case, but the Sept. 9 argument doesn't involve judicial elections. Instead, it's about a judge's off-the-record conversation with a lawyer who expressed concerns that a defendant before the judge could become violent.
