Cobb County Superior Court Judge C. LaTain Kell sentenced a 22-year-old man to 40 years, with 25 to serve in prison following a conviction Thursday on family violence charges.

The jury took an hour after a four-day trial to convict Devon Lamar Gilbert of two counts of aggravated battery- family violence, five counts of aggravated assault- family violence, and three counts of cruelty to children in the third degree, District Attorney Vic Reynolds announced. The charges stemmed from two documented incidents in July 2012 and May 2013 in which Gilbert was accused of beating his wife in front of their children.
