Pretrial wrangling in the criminal case against DeKalb County’s suspended CEO continued on Friday, with no resolution of defense contentions that the prosecution is tainted by illegal surveillance and selective prosecution.

Suspended CEO Burrell Ellis faces an indictment accusing him of shaking down county contractors for campaign contributions. Ellis’ lawyers in turn put DeKalb District Attorney Robert James on the stand on Thursday, with the DA repeatedly denying that he directed a special purpose grand jury charged with investigating the county’s watershed management to shift its focus from former County CEO Vernon Jones to Ellis.
