A federal judge in Atlanta has sentenced a Lithia Springs man to nearly six years in prison for brokering more than 100 sham marriages that allowed foreigners lacking documentation to remain in the country, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia announced Wednesday.
U.S. District Judge Thomas Thrash sentenced Rex Anyanwu, a native of Nigeria who had become a U.S. citizen and who was convicted last November by a federal jury for arranging the fraudulent marriages. Thrash also stripped him of his U.S. citizenship, said U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates.
