A Cobb County judge has sentenced a pair of so-called “sovereign citizens” to prison terms for trying to take control of vacant homes they did not own in Fulton, DeKalb and Forsyth counties.
Cobb Superior Court Judge A. Gregory Poole sentenced Susan Lorraine Weidman, 52, of Kennesaw to 40 years, with 20 years to be served in prison and the rest on probation, according to an announcement from Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds. Poole sentenced a codefendant, Matthew Lowery, 29, of Alpharetta, to 20 years, with 10 of those years to be served in prison. The two were convicted before a jury Feb. 28 for violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
