Lawyers, law students and legal support staff interested in volunteering with the Truancy Intervention Project Georgia’s “Advocating for the Truant Child” can sign up for training 9 a.m.-1 p.m. March 27 at the offices of Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan. Registration is free and available on the Atlanta Bar Association’s website.

As a partnership between the Fulton County Juvenile Court, Fulton County School System, Atlanta Public Schools and the Atlanta Bar Foundation, the Truancy Intervention Project Georgia assigns volunteer partners (lawyer and nonlawyer) to children who are involved with the juvenile court system as a result of excessive absences from school. The Truancy Intervention Project also has an early intervention initiative, which connects volunteers with children and families to intervene at the school level, before a juvenile court referral becomes necessary.
