U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid moved late Wednesday to close debate on the nomination of U.S. District Chief Judge Julie Carnes for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Democrats said in a Senate floor update that they expected to reach an agreement to call for a vote to close debate at 2 p.m. Thursday. If the Senate agrees to close debate, Carnes’ nomination could proceed to a confirmation vote by the full Senate as early as next week.
