A federal judge who has already hit Delta Air Lines with sanctions totaling more than $4.7 million for hiding or destroying evidence in an airline antitrust case has been asked to levy another $3.6 million against Delta for ignoring his court orders.
A team of lawyers representing air travelers in a dozen suits against Delta and AirTran Airways over baggage fees have asked U.S. District Judge Timothy Batten in Atlanta to rap Delta for the fourth time in the five-year-old multidistrict litigation. The requested funds would reimburse lawyers representing the plaintiff passengers for the expense of locating and retrieving information they claim is needed to prove that Delta and AirTran illegally conspired to institute passenger baggage fees beginning in 2008.
