Lawyers for the Fulton County Commission are asking a judge to order Republican politicians who sued to stop a property tax hike to post as much as $100 million as a bond pending the litigation’s outcome.
Georgia’s Public Lawsuit Act allows any political subdivision named in a lawsuit to petition the court to grant a surety bond to cover “all damages and costs which may accrue” to the municipality due to the suit, Fulton lawyers wrote in a Sept. 8 filing.
