A federal judge in Gainesville on Thursday issued a rare midtrial acquittal that ended the trial of a regional president of what federal prosecutors say is a national motorcycle gang that uses its clubhouses as conduits for crime.

After hearing four days of prosecution testimony, U.S. District Judge Richard Story acquitted Larry McDaniel, the regional president of Outlaw Motorcycle Club chapters across Georgia and Alabama, and codefendants Sean King and Howard Brown of federal obstruction of justice charges.
