• PGA star Dustin Johnson has filed a suit accusing attorney Nathan Hardwick IV and his former firm, Morris Hardwick & Schneider (now Morris|Schneider|Wittstadt) of racketeering. The complaint, filed Oct. 28, was ordered sealed by U.S. District Court Judge Steve Jones two days later at the request of the firm’s attorneys, but its cover sheet says it involves RICO claims. A still-unsealed exhibit to the complaint is a $2 million promissory note Hardwick signed on behalf of the firm when he was still its managing partner. Hardwick is no longer with the firm.
On Aug. 28, Morris Hardwick sued Hardwick in Fulton County State Court, accusing him of embezzling $30 million from the real estate firm and an affiliate, Landcastle Title. At the time, Hardwick denied the fraud allegations in a statement supplied by his lawyer, Ed Garland, saying Hardwick “became aware of a problem with the accounting earlier this summer and immediately alerted his partners and initiated a review by outside auditors.”
