The Georgia Department of Corrections has reached a $350,000 settlement with the family of an inmate murdered at Hays State Prison. Damion MacClain, 27, was beaten and stabbed to death in his cell the day after Christmas in 2012.

Sarah Geraghty and Melanie Velez of the Southern Center for Human Rights and Lawrence Bracken and Andrew Stulce of Hunton & Williams represented MacClain’s mother, RaHonda MacClain, in the suit filed in September 2013. She passed away earlier this year, and her brother, Lysander Turner, was substituted as the administrator for the estates of both RaHonda and Damion MacClain.
