G. Douglas Dillard is a zoning lawyer, not a civil rights lawyer, but he is no stranger to First Amendment controversy.

The city council of Kennesaw made national news when it denied a permit Dec. 1 for his client, a Muslim prayer center, to open in a local strip shopping center. After public outcry and Dillard’s threat to sue for religious discrimination, city council members changed their votes and approved the Suffa Dawat Center by 5-0 on Dec. 15.
