The governor’s appointee to a panel overseeing the Cordele Circuit’s public defender has resigned because Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens would not represent him in a lawsuit against the state and Cordele officials.

Robert Sherrell said that his fellow panel member and codefendant, Crisp County Probate Judge G. Russell Wright, has also resigned from the public defender’s oversight panel. Wright was appointed to the panel by the circuit’s chief superior court judge, who is also named as a defendant in the suit.
