The Georgia Court of Appeals on Wednesday rejected claims against an insurance company affiliate over its inspection of a Georgia sugar refinery plant that experienced a deadly explosion in 2008.

The case was brought by several workers who were injured when sugar dust ignited at the plant operated by Imperial Sugar Co. in Port Wentworth, as well as the family of a worker who died about a month later. They sued Zurich Services Corp., which inspected the plant under a contract with Imperial’s insurer. The plaintiffs point to evidence that the Zurich inspector failed to examine conveyor belts under which sugar dust accumulated.
