Making official a quick rise to the top leadership role at the Georgia Court of Appeals, Sara Doyle was sworn in as the court’s chief judge on Wednesday.
Health problems that precluded three judges from staying on the court long enough to take a full turn as chief—a post that usually rotates every two years by seniority—means Doyle essentially is taking the lead role six years early. Nonetheless, outgoing Chief Judge Herbert Phipps said at Wednesday’s investiture, “She has earned it.” He noted that Doyle had become involved with the court’s administrative matters soon after her 2008 election. “She is ready for this. … She knows the operations of the court from top to bottom.”
