The Georgia attorney general’s office says the city of Brookhaven violated the state’s open records law by improperly withholding correspondence between two city officials from local news media outlets.
In a July 20 letter to Brookhaven’s interim city attorney, Assistant Attorney General Jennifer Colangelo said Brookhaven’s city clerk violated state law when she claimed that email correspondence between the city manager and its human resources director was privileged and thus exempt from the state’s public records law. The email had been sought by the Brookhaven Post, an online news publication that covers the DeKalb County city.
