A locomotive engineer’s testimony contradicting that of his conductor helped persuade a federal jury in Albany to reject the conductor’s $2.5 million personal injury claim stemming from the train’s collision with a tractor-trailer rig, a defense lawyer says.

The Albany jury took less than 30 minutes to award nothing to conductor Thomas Eastep, even though the defendant trucking company and its driver had taken responsibility for the collision, said defense lawyer Ashley Gowder, an attorney with Hall Booth Smith in Atlanta.
