An Atlanta criminal defense attorney’s 41-year career is over because he acted as a go-between for a client in a $100,000 investment deal with an investor who says the money he forwarded to the lawyer disappeared.

The state Supreme Court on Monday accepted attorney Tony Axam’s petition to surrender his law license, which it said was tantamount to disbarment. A special master appointed by the State Bar of Georgia to handle the disciplinary proceedings against Axam recommended last year that he be disbarred.
