Zainab Alwan is the Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network’s new asylum attorney, expanding the legal nonprofit’s paid staff to three lawyers and an office coordinator.

Alwan interned four years ago for GAIN, which enlists lawyers in private practice to represent asylum-seekers pro bono, but it did not have the budget to hire her at the time. Instead she joined Duluth immigration firm Socheat Chea.
