With the 2016 legislative session upon us, we Georgians should hold our representatives accountable for what they do with the money they take from us in the form of add-on fees collected for specific, stated purposes. Currently, the General Assembly takes this money from us for one stated purpose and then spends it however the appropriations committee sees fit.

Such change requires an amendment to the Georgia Constitution, like the one that protects the money collected for the Hope Scholarship. It should be introduced as the “Integrity Amendment,” because integrity is what we need to end this bait-and-switch budgeting tactic employed by the General Assembly. This tactic is a far cry from integrity; it is theft by deception.
