The Fulton County judge presiding over the criminal case against a former coastal Georgia judge has recused, following prosecutors’ complaints that the judge’s reservations about the case created an unfair bias against prosecution.
Superior Court Judge Jerry Baxter recused after a hearing in September when he questioned the wisdom of pursuing criminal charges against Amanda Williams, the former chief of the Brunswick Judicial Circuit Superior Court. The charges are based on allegations that she lied to the state judicial watchdog agency before agreeing to resign in December 2011 to resolve pending ethics charges against her.
