Common Cause Georgia and the Georgia NAACP on Wednesday sued Secretary of State Brian Kemp, claiming that his office illegally purged hundreds of thousands of registered, qualified voters from the state’s voter registration rolls.

The suit, filed in federal court in Atlanta, contends that Kemp’s office has stripped people from the rolls simply because they did not vote, in what the groups say is a violation of the First Amendment as well as the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.
