The Georgia House of Representatives has passed a resolution calling for a constitutional amendment to abolish the state judicial watchdog agency and companion legislation giving the General Assembly authority to re-create and govern it.
The House passed the resolution 125-43 Monday morning. It approved the companion legislation 123-45. Judiciary Committee Chairman Wendell Willard, a Republican attorney from Sandy Springs, urged his fellow legislators to back the legislation, which he authored. He claimed that the Judicial Qualifications Commission, which investigates ethical complaints against the state’s judges and recommends disciplinary action to the state Supreme Court, has lost any credibility to oversee and review judicial conduct.
