At the start of Sunshine Week, which this year celebrates the 50th anniversary of the passage of the federal Freedom of Information Act, prosecutors in Dawson County are pursuing criminal charges against an award-winning videographer and citizen journalist on criminal charges stemming from her recording of a 2014 Republican campaign rally that had been billed as open to the public.

Journalist Nydia Tisdale was to be arraigned Tuesday on two charges (one a felony and one a misdemeanor) of obstructing an off-duty Dawson County deputy who grabbed and then dragged from her from a political rally on Aug. 23, 2014, that was sponsored by the Republican Party at Burt’s Farm near Dawsonville. Tisdale was also charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass.
