Calling a Gainesville poultry plant’s cooperation in an accident investigation involving a poultry worker “less than forthcoming,” the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the U.S. attorney in Atlanta are seeking a search warrant to inspect the plant premises for other safety hazards.
The request for a warrant to conduct a broad safety inspection follows a near fatal accident at Mar-Jac Poultry’s Gainesville processing plant in February that hospitalized a worker with third-degree burn. That accident, and Mar-Jac’s response to it, according to the warrant, “underscores Mar-Jac’s utter disregard” for the existence of potentially fatal hazards at the plant.
