The State Bar of Georgia’s Formal Advisory Opinion Board has proposed prohibiting law firms with only one practicing attorney from using the words “group” and “& Associates” as part of their name.

The Georgia Trial Lawyers Association president opposes the ban on the word “group,” arguing it could refer to a solo lawyer and non-attorney staff. But the GTLA president acknowledged that a solo using “& Associates” could confuse the public.
