The roads to the title of general counsel traveled by four women who discussed their experiences Thursday were as diverse as the speakers themselves, the industries they represented and the audience they addressed.
Tara Plimpton returned to her hometown to work in a small law firm and take care of her grandmother before going in-house at her longtime client, GE. Sarah Powell, before being recruited to her current position at Focus Brands last year, fell into the GC role at her previous company as an emergency replacement. Audrey Boone-Tillman worked on the business side of AFLAC for many years before becoming the company’s top lawyer. And Sloane Perras, married to a military pilot in the early part of her legal career, sat for five bar exams in four years and worked in the legal departments of several companies in different states before landing the role at The Krystal Co.
