A social media savvy appeals court judge took to Twitter on Monday to withdraw his name from consideration for one of the three open positions on the Georgia Supreme Court.
“Regarding my nomination to the Supreme Court of Georgia,” Judge Stephen Dillard, aka @JudgeDillard, wrote in a tweet pinned to the top of his feed. The Georgia Court of Appeals judge linked to a statement that exceeded Twitter’s 140-character limit. In it, he wrote that he has decided “after a great deal of prayer and consideration” not to pursue appointment to the high court and to continue his service on the intermediate court—”an institution I dearly love.” Dillard, 46, who was appointed to the Court of Appeals in 2010 and is in line to become the court’s chief judge next year, said he wants to stay in his current job through its “transitional period.”
