Georgia judges will soon have an easily accessible guide to use when dealing with misdemeanor defendants and probationers. The Judicial Council of Georgia’s Policy and Legislative Committee has agreed to sponsor a Misdemeanor Probation Bench Card, which will be distributed to jurists statewide.
The card includes “key considerations” such as constitutional requirements concerning the right to counsel and state provisions regarding indigent defendants and those with “significant financial hardship,” and what judges should tell defendants or probationers regarding their sentencing or probation.
