A suit filed Wednesday that seeks to block Georgia’s strict voter registration requirements in the final weeks before the November election could face a significant hurdle: the U.S. Justice Department approved the procedures six years ago.
Secretary of State Brian Kemp pointed to that approval in defending a policy that requires an exact match between voter registration applications and the state’s drivers’ license and Social Security databases.
