A judge working to help convicted offenders change their lives, a deceased law firm partner known for reforms in foster care and police officers who showed leadership uniting opposing groups through a mass shooting tragedy will all be honored when the Atlanta legal community gathers for its annual Red Mass on Oct. 13.

Judges and lawyers will gather to pray for peace and justice at the 11 a.m. event marking the beginning of a new judicial year. Weather permitting, justices from the Georgia Supreme Court and judges from the Georgia Court of Appeals will line up by seniority outside the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at 353 Peachtree Center Ave. N.E. downtown. The judges will file in for the mass to fill the front rows of the church, wearing red stoles with their black robes to match the red vestments worn by clergy.
