Georgia Court of Appeals Judge Herbert Phipps gave a rousing speech Thursday at a ceremony to unveil his retirement portrait, lamenting the need to fight again the civil rights battles of the past and calling on all people—especially lawyers—to show the courage to stand up for justice.

“Much remains to be done,” Phipps said. “Each person here has a role to play in the pursuit of liberty and justice for all.”
