A Dougherty County jury awarded $15.2 million to the parents of a young man murdered at a recording studio that actually functioned as an unlicensed nightclub, apportioning 70 percent of the liability—more than $10.6 million—to the only defendant participating in the trial: the city of Albany.

The owners of now-defunct Brick City, who never responded to the suit and were declared in default years ago, were assessed 10 percent of the damages, with the rest being divided among an assortment of individuals associated with the Valentine’s Day 2010 murder of 20-year-old LaSheldon Stanford, including the man serving life for his murder.
