Following interviews with 15 candidates, the Judicial Nominating Commission sent a short list of three choices to Gov. Nathan Deal Monday for consideration in filling at least one opening on the Georgia Court of Appeals.

Deal is expected to soon appoint a replacement for Presiding Judge Herbert Phipps, who will retire at the end of November. But that opening could soon be followed by up to three more, depending on the governor’s choices for three positions on the Georgia Supreme Court.
