An attorney for a North Georgia couple who filed a bar complaint against the speaker of the Georgia House said Wednesday she was shocked at the recommendation of a special master that the complaint be resolved with a reprimand before a State Bar of Georgia disciplinary panel.

Gainesville lawyer Barbara Cole said two lawyers with the State Bar of Georgia who investigated the complaint against House Speaker David Ralston assured her that they believed “they had enough to go forward with the surrender of his license. Me and every other average attorney would have lost our license over this,” she said. “There are obviously two types of punishment. If you are politically connected, don’t worry about it.”
