The Georgia Supreme Court Wednesday reversed attempted extortion and perjury convictions for former DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer W. Burrell Ellis Jr., who has already served 18 months in prison for what the state alleged were attempts to pressure a county contractor for campaign contributions.

In a unanimous opinion written by Justice Harold Melton, the high court agreed with attorneys for Ellis that DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Courtney Johnson placed restrictions on the defense team that did not apply to prosecutors.
