2016 was an unusual year. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series for the first time since 1908; the Great Britain electorate defied all predictions by voting to leave the European Union; and the American people elected a lifetime businessman, who was relatively unknown to politics, named Donald J. Trump as its 45th president.
The atypical characteristics of 2016 seemed to carryover to 2017′s presidential inauguration, which I was privileged to attend. It was one of the warmest on record, the first inauguration since the U.S. Capitol’s dome restoration and the first since 1937 where close to an inch of rain fell. Yet, these irregularities did not diminish the humbling splendor that accompanies U.S. presidential inaugurations.
