A few years ago, I was at the Festival de Cannes when I discovered how cool current documentaries are. They are not those horrible film strips I had to watch as a kid. So many are vibrant feature films, with real-life drama that keeps you on the edge of your seat. And this week I saw one such movie at another film festival—the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival—which is showcasing “The Freedom to Marry.”
“The Freedom to Marry” chronicles the campaign mounted by the LGBT community to gain equality of marriage that culminated in the Supreme Court’s 2015 decision in Obergefell v. Hodges. I have seen many lawyer films, but this is the first I know of where an appellate lawyer was the star. Naturally, I loved it.
