In a split decision, a federal appeals court has upheld the conviction of an Alabama public official for giving Mobile residents’ email addresses to a mayoral candidate.
The panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, by a 2-1 vote, ruled Tuesday that former Mobile County License Commissioner Kimberly Hastie violated the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act when she turned over a list of drivers’ email addresses to Mayor Sandy Stimpson’s campaign in 2013.
