Redford v. State

The trial court properly denied the defendant's pro se motion for speedy trial, because the defendant was represented by counsel when he filed the motion and he did not properly file the motion, as he provided no evidence that he served the trial court with the demand.

Mike Redford, a pro se defendant, appeals the trial court’s order denying his motion for speedy trial.1 We granted the discretionary appeal of the pre-trial denial of Redford’s motion for speedy trial.2 Finding no error, we affirm.

Redford was arrested in October 2013 and indicted on four counts of aggravated stalking. Redford, a pro se defendant, filed multiple motions with the court including a motion to quash the indictment, a motion for bond, and a demand for speedy trial. At one point, Redford hired an attorney to represent him at his motion for bond hearing on February 26, 2014.3 On May 7, 2014, the trial court granted a motion from the attorney to withdraw as Redford’s counsel.
