The winning lawyers in a wrangle between the city of Atlanta and the trustees for three city employee pension funds said they hoped an award for nearly $84,000 of their attorney fees meant the case would end — but they weren’t holding their breath.
“I think it’s a pretty strong order,” said Decatur attorney Mary Carole Cooney of the Jan. 5 decision by Chief Judge Doris Downs of the Fulton County Superior Court. The judge told the city to pay $83,737 to the lawyers representing the trustees of the Fire Fighters Pension Fund, the Police Officers Pension Fund and the General Employees Pension Fund, and several officers and beneficiaries of those funds.
