A Superior Court judge has dismissed defamation claims brought against Vice Media by a company that tracks gunshot data, finding there was no actual malice proven and Vice’s statements were protected by California’s fair report privilege.

Judge Sheldon Rennie on Thursday granted Vice’s motion to dismiss the case filed by ShotSpotter Inc., which asked for over $300 million in damages in a complaint filed by Clare Locke and Farnan LLP.
