The Delaware General Assembly unanimously confirmed Superior Court President Judge James T. Vaughn Jr. on Oct. 8 as the next justice on the Delaware Supreme Court. Vaughn will replace retired Justice Carolyn Berger, who stepped down from the court last month.

The General Assembly voted 21-0 to confirm Vaughn after an eight-minute hearing in which five questions were asked. Gov. Jack Markell had to call a special session of the legislature to hold the hearing and subsequent vote because Berger’s resignation left the court with a vacancy that needed to be filled before the General Assembly returns to session in January.
