As David C. Weiss, a longtime first assistant to former U.S. Attorney Charles M. Oberly for the District of Delaware, took acting control of the office on Monday, some began to speculate the post could eventually turn permanent for the Republican, after his predecessor was abruptly ordered to resign.
Representatives from the U.S. Attorney’s Office confirmed that the U.S. Department of Justice accepted Oberly’s resignation letter on Monday, just three days after Attorney General Jeff Sessions told 46 holdover U.S. Attorneys from the Obama administration to step down immediately on March 10.
