As expected, patent infringement lawsuits were firmly back on the upswing in 2020 after trending down the four previous years, according Unified Patents’ annual Patent Dispute Report.

Patent owners filed 3,347 suits in district court, up about 12% over 2019, with about half of that growth generated by a single nonpracticing entity, according to Unified, a membership organization that aims to deter patent abuse.
