$300M Sexual Abuse Settlement Included in Boy Scouts Chapter 11 Plan
Insurers have criticized the number of sexual abuse claims being added to the bankruptcy case, alleging attorneys taking on the claims may not be thoroughly checking them for accuracy.

A Chapter 11 plan filed Monday proposes the Boy Scouts of America could pay upward of $300 million and liquidate hundreds of works of art to settle thousands of sexual abuse claims.
If approved, the settlement would bar the now more than 95,000 claims brought against the organization from being brought in any other court.
The 379-page plan, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, states the total value of the settlement is at least $300 million, but does not indicate where that settlement might be capped. The settlement trust would be overseen by a trustee and a three-member advisory committee, and it would waive liability for local Boy Scouts councils.
