The 23rd Annual Tulane Corporate Law Institute took place on March 31 and April 1 in New Orleans. The institute has been called the "most important gathering of its kind" and "the preeminent annual conference for M&A lawyers" byThe Deal/Corporate Control Alert .

After welcoming remarks, the conference opened with a presentation by Antonio Weiss, the Global Head of Investment Banking for Lazard. The bottom-line: Things are looking good for 2011 merger and acquisition activity. The number of M&A transactions increased in 2010, a trend Weiss expects to continue. Corporate profits were up around 30 percent, with the result that firms are relatively flush with cash to pay dividends, engage in stock repurchases and to finance acquisitions.
