The 25th annual Tulane Corporate Law Institute took place March 21 and 22 in New Orleans. The institute is known for being the pre-eminent annual conference for M&A lawyers. Coverage of the second day’s events follows. Complete coverage of the first day is available here.

The first panel March 22, titled "M&A and the Media," featured journalists and public relations professionals discussing how to present M&A deals. Journalists suggested that they will not publish a story unless they hear it from at least two sources, and usually require three. Nevertheless, even outlets such as Bloomberg will link to a story reporting an interesting rumor, on the theory that the fact it is being reported is itself news. The panelists agreed that practitioners should plan as if talks surrounding a deal will leak. Approximately half of major deals in recent years have been made public before they were final.
