Companies that purchase bankruptcy claims from creditors slated to receive preferential payments from a trustee are also prohibited from recovering payment, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit has ruled.

The federal appeals court’s ruling affirms decisions by the Delaware Bankruptcy Court and the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware barring a company that purchased claims from one of KB Toys Inc.’s creditors from receiving payment for those claims.
